* Monitoring Student Progress in Middlebury Courses

Typically, Michigan Virtual offers courses utilizing the Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS), however in order to offer a wide variety of world language courses Middlebury was selected for the following titles:

  • Grades 6-8: French (1&2), German (1&2) and Spanish (1&2)
  • Grades 9-12: French (3), AP French and AP Spanish

There are a few key differences in functionality between the two systems and their integration with the Student Learning Portal (SLP). This guide will be used as a reference to help mentors effectively monitor their students’ progress in these unique courses within Middlebury.

The overall student score in each course is properly displayed at the top of the SLP Gradebook page.

  • Pacing information is NOT available in the SLP for Middlebury courses. When the SLP indicates that a student is 0 assignments behind pace, it is not an accurate representation for the Middlebury course. This level of detail is only provided within the Middlebury system itself.
  • Detailed Gradebook information (scores on individual assignments) are also not displayed in the SLP for Middlebury courses. This information can be obtained through viewing a student’s gradebook in Middlebury and comparing it with the course pacing guide.

Middlebury course pacing guides are available within World Languages Course Resources and Policies and then go to the Middlebury Courses menu at the top and navigate to the appropriate language and course.

If you consider a student’s start date in the SLP as week 1 on the pacing guide, you will be able to see where students should be at pacing-wise in the course.
