District Reporting: MFA Configuration and First Time Login

Intended Audience: District Representatives, REP

About

To ensure secure access to REP Reports in the Michigan Virtual Student Learning Portal (SLP), all district users are required to complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) during their first login. MFA provides an additional layer of security by requiring the use of an authenticator application on a mobile device in addition to standard login credentials.

Important: This article outlines the steps for first-time login and MFA configuration in the SLP. For subsequent logins, district users should refer to the District Reporting: Login article.

Pre-Login Requirements

Before beginning, please confirm the following:

  • The district user has received the account creation email for the Student Learning Portal.
  • An authenticator application has been installed on the district user’s mobile device. Recommended options include the Microsoft Authenticator App or the Google Authenticator App.

Instruction

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Student Learning Portal login page.
  2. In the appropriate fields, enter the district user’s email address and password, then click the Sign in button.
The Welcome page is shown with an arrow pointing to the Sign In button below email and password fields.
  3. The system will prompt the district user to configure Multi-Factor Authentication. This process involves scanning a QR code and linking the account with an authenticator application.
  4. On the district user’s mobile device, launch the previously installed authenticator application.
  5. Within the app, add a new account. This action will activate the device’s camera.
  6. Use the camera to scan the QR code displayed on the SLP login screen.
  7. After scanning, the authenticator app will display a 6-digit verification code. Enter this code into the field labeled Step 2 on the SLP login screen.
  8. Click the Set Up Two-Factor Now button. A confirmation message will appear: "Your MFA is activated!"
The authenticator prompt is shown with arrows pointing to the 6-digit code field and to the Set up two-factor now button.
  9. Click the Continue button to return to the main login page. Re-enter the email and password to complete login. The Welcome page shows the multi-factor authentication dialog box. Arrows point to the authentication code field and to the verify button.

Future Logins

  • For all future logins, district users will be required to enter the 6-digit verification code displayed in the authenticator application. Users will not be required to setup MFA or scan a QR code in future logins. For subsequent logins, district users should refer to the District Reporting: Login article.
  • The Authentication code changes every few seconds for enhanced security.
  • To simplify access, district users may select the checkbox "Remember me for 7 days", which bypasses MFA for the next login session.

Password Recovery

If login credentials are forgotten, the district user may reset the password using the "Forgot your Login and/or Password?" link on the login page.
