Intended Audience: Students
About
If a student is unable to access lessons or assignments in a Brightspace course, it is likely because the Student Orientation to Online Learning course (also called "Unit 0") has not been completed successfully. This orientation course is required once per school year and must be finished with a 100% score on the final assessment before any other courses can be accessed.
Important: Instructors do not have access to student progress within the Orientation to Online Learning course.
Instruction
1. Check for an "Student Orientation to Online Learning Not Completed!" Message
If a student tries to open a course and sees a message saying that the Orientation to Online Learning is not complete, this means one of two things:
- The student has not yet finished the orientation course, or
- The student has completed the course but did not earn 100% on the final quiz.
In this case, a link will appear to redirect the student to the orientation course.
2. Open the Orientation Course
To open the orientation course:
- Click the waffle icon (Course Selector) at the top of the Brightspace screen and then select Student Orientation to Online Learning from the list, or
- Tap Orientation from the top menu bar.
3. Review the Assessment Grade
- Once inside the orientation course, click on Grades in the navigation bar.
- Look for the final quiz. If the score is less than 100%, the student will need to retake the quiz.
4. View Quiz Attempts (Optional)
To review which questions were answered incorrectly:
- Select My Progress from the navigation bar.
- In the left-hand menu, choose Quizzes.
- Click the linked name of the quiz to view past attempts and feedback.
5. Retake the Quiz
To retake the quiz:
- Click Lessons in the course menu.
- Locate and select the Orientation Quiz from the content list.
- Complete the quiz again and continue retaking it until a 100% score is achieved.
Once the orientation course is completed with a perfect score, full access to course content will be granted automatically.
