About
Section 21f of the State School Act outlines the requirements for course syllabi, including the obligation to provide the results of a virtual course quality review (MCL 388.1621F(14)(g)(xii)). To evaluate courses listed in MiCourses, the NSQ National Standards for Quality Online Courses are used. These standards consist of seven key areas, each with specific indicators that define essential course quality requirements. Additionally, each standard includes explanations and examples to provide further clarity on expectations. Districts have the flexibility to:
- Conduct their own internal review, allowing district-appointed reviewers to evaluate and submit ratings.
- Use a third-party vendor assessment, trusting that the course has been reviewed according to NSQOL (National Standards for Quality Online Learning).
If a district develops its own course content, it is recommended to obtain an external or third-party review, to ensure quality and compliance. Once the review is completed, the district must enter the results into MiCourses. Failure to input the results will prevent the course from being displayed in the MiCourses catalog.
