Forbidden or Blocked Error

Intended Audience: Students, Affiliation Users

About

A "Forbidden" or "Blocked" error may appear when attempting to access a URL within a Michigan Virtual course. This issue is often caused by restrictions in the school's firewall settings. Depending on the user's role, different actions are required to resolve the problem.

Instruction

Students

If a “Forbidden” or “Blocked” error appears when trying to open a URL in a Michigan Virtual course:

  • Contact the school’s IT Administrator as soon as possible.
  • Share the exact URL that is generating the error.

The IT Administrator will need this information to allow access through the school’s network.

IT Administrators

To resolve blocked access to course content:

  1. Refer to the Michigan Virtual Course Allow List, which includes all approved domains and resources required for course access.
  2. If additional assistance is needed, contact the Michigan Virtual Customer Care Center.
    • Be prepared to verify IT credentials.
    • Provide a valid school or district email address during communication.

Ensuring that firewall settings align with the Michigan Virtual Course Allow List will help prevent future access issues for students.
