Intended Audience: Professional Learners/Educators
About
In contrast to other courses available in the Professional Learning Portal (PLP), a few courses will now launch in a new browser window. This guide will provide instructions for accessing the course, SCORM courses, troubleshooting tips, and technical requirements for school IT members.
Instruction
- First, tap to open the course within the "Active Courses" section in the PLP Dashboard.
Note: Learners may encounter a message indicating that the site is blocked. To correct this, ensure that pop-up blockers are disabled for the site. Refer to the appropriate documentation for the browser being utilized (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
At this point, a new and smaller browser window will display the course. Take note of basic controls and navigate the course until its completion.

Troubleshooting Tips
Logging In:
To access the PLP, visit the website, tap the Login button, enter your login credentials and then tap the Login button at the bottom of the page. If necessary, click the "Forgot your Password?" link to reset your password.
Course Completion:
Once a learner completes the course, a brief completion confirmation will appear before the window automatically closes, without prior warning. Learners will then be redirected to back to their Dashboard. At this point, the course may still be visible in the "Active Courses" section. Please wait 1-2 minutes before refreshing the page to give the system time to update enrollment information. After refreshing the page, learners can find the course listed in the "Completed Courses" section. When the course is selected, users will have the option to download the certificate.
Technical Issues:
Technical issues such as courses freezing, no audio, and matching questions not working properly can be resolved by referring to the Technical Requirements-For IT School Contact below. Clearing the browser cache by pressing CTRL+F5 simultaneously and ensuring that the web browser is up to date and JavaScript and cookies are enabled can also help resolve the issues. Refer to the Safety Skills Minimum and Recommended Technical Requirements page for further information.
Technical Requirements-For IT School Contact
- Frist, go to the Safety Skills: Technical Requirements page.
- Next, ensure that the domains "mivu.org" and "michiganvirtual.org" are added to your email service's "safe senders" list to prevent Michigan Virtual emails from being marked as spam or junk mail.
- Finally, contact the Customer Care Center for any firewall, proxy server, or other networking information that may be required.
