PLP: Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy

Intended Audience: Professional Learners/Educators


Within the Professional Learning Portal (PLP) Active Courses section, learners can find different Essential Early Literacy courses. These courses are designed to enhance learners' understanding of Early Literacy in Michigan and their role in enhancing it. Upon enrollment, learners will receive an email containing comprehensive course details and a direct link to access the PLP. This article outlines the steps for learners to access the course and provides a brief overview of the navigation process.


  1. First, log into the PLP.
  2. By default, the Dashboard page will be displayed and the Active Courses section will contain tiles with course titles. Select a tile to launch the course in a new browser tab.
  3. At this point, tap the appropriate linked course name to open the content in a new window. Then begin the course by selecting Get Started.
  4. Continue to the next topic by tapping the next button at the top of the page.
    Note: If there are incomplete actions, you will receive a message indicating that there are pieces within the unit that need to be completed. Tap Back to Content to return and complete these actions. Once the course has been finished, learners can view or print the Completion Certificate.
