Intended Audience: Content Vendors
About
In accordance with Section 21f of the State School Act (MCL 388.1621F), Content Vendors (third-party providers) are prohibited from creating course offerings for their proprietary online courses through Michigan's Online Course Catalog. Instead, they will assume the role of creating and managing course syllabi along with their respective reviews within the Course Administration site. Following this, they will enable public school districts to create course offerings for their district.
Instruction
Step 1. Log in
All vendor setup and catalog management tasks are completed in the MiCourses Course Administration site. Log in to the site or register if an account is needed.
Step 2. Create Courses
Vendors have multiple options for adding courses to their catalog.
- Option A: Create New Courses. Vendors may create new courses directly in the MiCourses Course Administration site using the course creation workflow. For step-by-step instructions refer to Add New Course.
- Option B. Duplicate Existing Courses. Vendors may duplicate an existing course to create a new version while retaining core course information. Refer to Duplicate a Course.
- Option C. Upload Multiple Courses at Once. Vendors may choose to upload several courses at once using the upload feature. Refer to Upload Several Third-Party Courses at Once.
It is important that vendors Allow Districts to Import Third-Party Courses. Enabling this will allow districts to import vendor courses to their catalog and create course offerings for those courses.
Step 3. Create a Course Review
All courses must have an associated review before course offerings can be created. Districts will not be able to see the course until an associated review is attached. Refer to Add Course Review.
Step 4. Provide Vendor Code
Third-party courses can be imported only when a district (Catalog Manager) obtains a "Vendor Code" from a Content Vendor. Content Vendors will set this code during the registration process and are responsible for distributing the code to their partnering districts. Refer to Vendor Syllabi Code.
