Exempt Multiple Students from a Single Assignment

Intended Audience: Collaborative Instructors
This article pertains to courses taught by local teachers as part of a collaborative partnership.

Introduction:

In the Brightspace Gradebook, instructors can choose to exempt students from specific assignments, which will exclude those assignments from their final course grade. To exempt multiple students from the same assignment, follow the steps below.

Note that exempted assignments will still appear in a student's SLP Gradebook, but will not be factored into their score. To learn more about how students can view exemptions, refer to the View Exempt Grade page.

Details:

  1. First, from your Brightspace course, go to the Grades page.
  2. Next, scroll to the assignment you want to exempt students from, click the drop-down menu next to the assignment name and then choose Enter Grades.
The Grades page is shown with the table scrolled to the right. Arrows point to the Grades option within the top menu bar and to the assignment drop-down menu option Enter Grades.
  3. Then select the checkbox next to each student’s name that you want to exempt from the assignment and then click Exempt from the options above the table.
The Grade Item page is shown with a table listing students. Arrows point to the select, checkbox, column and to the Exempt button above the table.
  4. Finally, click Save and Close to apply the changes.
