Intended Audience: Collaborative Instructors
This article pertains to courses taught by local teachers as part of a collaborative partnership.
Introduction:
The following page provides instructions for collaborative instructors on how to finalize grades in Brightspace and update a student's final grade in the Student Learning Portal (SLP). It is crucial for instructors to follow the outlined steps at the end of each term to ensure accurate reporting on student completions.
Detail:
Before finalizing a student’s grade, it’s important to verify that the gradebook is complete. Every item in the gradebook must have a score, either:
- A numerical score;
- An earned zero, or
- A manually entered zero
Do not leave any grade cells blank. Doing so may result in an inaccurate grade calculation.
- Enter zeros for any uncompleted discussion boards. Discussion board assignments will NOT populate with automatic zeros at any time.
- Any items that are blank must contain a score. Manually enter a zero and wait for the SLP and Brightspace to sync before marking the student complete (up to 24 hours).
Instruction:
- First, tap the Grades tab in the top menu bar within a course.
- Next, scroll to the right to locate the "COMPLETED" column to select the drop-down and then choose Enter Grades.
- Instructors can finalize grades for all students by selecting the check all box at the top right corner of the table or for a few students by placing a checkmark next to specific students. Once they have selected the students, enter the number "1" in the "Grade" column, tap Save and Close to finalize grades.
- As a result, the student's final grades will be updated in the SLP. An extra 12-24 hours can be required to allow the Student Learning Portal (SLP) to sync with Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS) during times of high submissions or web traffic.
