Intended Audience: Mentors, Affiliation Users
About
Some school personnel are assigned both Affiliation User and Mentor roles within the Student Learning Portal (SLP). These dual permissions allow users to switch between roles to perform specific tasks. By default, accounts are set to the Affiliation role, which enables account management and student enrollments. This guide explains how mentors and affiliation users can switch between roles to access different functions.
Instruction
- In the top right corner of the SLP home page, select the Role dropdown. If the role selection dropdown is not visible, dual role permissions have not been assigned. If dual permissions are needed, a request should be submitted to the Michigan Virtual Customer Care Center.
- From the drop-down menu, select MENTOR.
- After switching to the Mentor role, the page will refresh, and the following options will become available:
- View messages sent to the mentor
- Monitor the students assigned to the mentor
- Perform mentor-specific tasks such as tracking student progress
- To switch back, open the drop-down menu again and select AFFILIATION. Upon refreshing, affiliation users will regain access to:
- View account information
- Create student, mentor, or affiliation user accounts
- Perform advanced affiliation tasks, such as enrolling or dropping students
Proper role switching ensures that mentors and affiliation users can perform necessary actions based on their responsibilities.
