Guardian: Create a New Guardian and Student Account in the SLP

About

This guide outlines how guardians can create both a Student Learning Portal (SLP) account for themselves and a corresponding student account to enroll a child in a Michigan Virtual online course. This process is required for home school enrollments only.

The SLP does not currently allow guardians to link to existing student accounts. If a student already has an SLP account, guardians must submit a support ticket including: Guardian Full Name, Email Address, Phone Number and Student Full Name. For additional help, refer to the Quick Start Guide or view the First-Time Registration and Enrollment video tutorial.

Instruction

Access the Registration Page

  1. Open a web browser and go to the Student Learning Portal (SLP).
  2. On the login page, select the New Parent/Guardian Registration button located beneath the login fields.

Enter Guardian Information

On the Guardian Information section:

  • Enter the First Name and Last Name of the guardian.
  • Add a contact phone number (optional but recommended).
  • Enter a unique email address in both the Email and Confirm Email fields.
  • The Username will auto-populate based on the email address.
  • Create and confirm a password in the designated fields.

Enter Student Information

In the Student Information section:

  • Enter the First Name and Last Name of the student.
  • Use the calendar tool to select the student’s Date of Birth.
  • Select the student’s Gender from the drop-down menu.
  • Answer the prompt: “Is the student attending school in the State of Michigan?”
    • If Yes, select the appropriate County and School District.
    • If No, select the Country where the student resides.
  • Provide a student contact number (optional).
  • Choose the student’s Grade Level.
  • Indicate if the student has an IEP or a Section 504 Plan using the drop-down fields.
  • Enter a unique student email address in both the Email and Confirm Email fields.
    • As with the guardian account, the Username will populate automatically.
  • Create and confirm a password for the student account.

Add Additional Students (Optional)

To add another student:

  • Select the Add Another Student button.
  • Repeat the same steps as listed above for each additional student.
  • Guardians may add multiple students before finalizing the account.

Finalize Account Creation

  • Once all required fields for the guardian and student(s) are complete, click the Create New Account button located at the bottom of the page.

Now that an accounts are created, a guardian can now enroll their child in a course.
