About
This guide outlines the steps for guardians to enroll a student in a Michigan Virtual online course using the Student Learning Portal (SLP). Only guardians can initiate and complete course enrollment—students are not permitted to enroll themselves.
Important: Before proceeding, ensure that both guardian and student accounts have been created. For help, refer to the Add Student and Guardian Accounts guide.
Instruction
1. Log In
- Begin by accessing the Student Learning Portal (SLP) and logging into the guardian account.
2. Access the Course Registration Page
- From the left-hand navigation menu, select Course Registration.
- The Course Catalog Search section will be displayed, where available courses can be filtered and selected.
3.Search the Course Catalog
Guardians can locate a specific course by entering a title or applying search filters. Recommended filters include:
- Search by Course Title (to look up a specific course name)
- Subject (e.g., Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts)
- Term (e.g., Semester, Trimester, Summer; refer to the Enrollment Calendar for term details)
Additional optional filters include:
- Catalog Type (e.g., AP Courses, Essentials, Test Out)
- Instructor Provider (e.g., Michigan Virtual, Confucius Institute)
- School Level (e.g., High School, Middle School)
- NCAA Approved (to view only NCAA-eligible courses)
- Content Provider (to filter by course vendor)
Once filters are set, click the Apply Filter button to display matching results.
4. Review Course Details
- In the Course column of the results table, click the linked course name to open the course description and syllabus.
- After reviewing the information, click the X in the top right corner to close the preview.
5. Select and Register for a Course
To enroll a student in a course:
- Check the box in the Select column of the desired course row.
- Use the Start Date drop-down menu to choose when the student should begin the course.
- Click the Register button to proceed to the enrollment confirmation page.
6. Confirm Enrollment and Submit Payment
- Review all enrollment details for accuracy.
- Enter the payment information in the required fields.
- Click the Make Payment button to complete the transaction.
7. Confirmation and Next Steps
- A confirmation message will appear:
“Thank you for your payment, you will receive an email with further instructions shortly.” - Below the message, click Go to Dashboard to return to the Guardian Dashboard.
- If a transaction error occurs, refer to the Transaction Failed process for support.
Enrollment Complete
Once the enrollment is finalized and payment is submitted, the student will be able to begin the course on the selected start date. Guardians can continue to monitor progress and access course-related information through the Guardian Dashboard.
