About
Most courses available in the Student Learning Portal (SLP) include a standards alignment document in the course syllabus. This document outlines the academic content standards that the course’s instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments are aligned to.
However, there are certain situations where an alignment document may not be included. The following list explains why a course might not display an alignment document.
Reasons an Alignment Document May Be Missing
- Non-Academic or Non-Credit Offerings
The course is not designed to count toward academic credit or appear on a student’s school transcript. Examples include online summer camps or supplemental programs created to provide additional practice or academic support. - No Applicable Standards
The course content covers unique subject matter not addressed in the Michigan Academic Standards or any recognized national academic standards. This may apply to specialized electives focused on career interests or non-traditional topics. - Postsecondary or Dual Enrollment Courses
The course is intended for college-level or postsecondary students, often offered through dual enrollment programs, and therefore may not fall under K-12-specific academic standards. - Newly Developed Courses
The course is a new offering, and the alignment document is still in development. In these cases, viewers will be directed to a message that reads: “The alignment document for this course is still under development; please check back soon to view it when it becomes available.”
What Viewers Can Expect
If an alignment document is missing, viewers can be assured that one of the reasons above applies. In the case of a new course, the document will be added once development is complete. Until then, viewers are encouraged to check back periodically for updates.
