Intended Audience: Guardians
About
When a student is enrolled in a Michigan Virtual course by a guardian, it is necessary for the guardian to obtain exam passwords directly from the course instructor. This guide outlines the steps guardians should follow to secure the exam passwords ahead of scheduled exam dates. It is highly recommended that midterm and final exams be proctored. In a proctored exam setting, guardians are responsible for supervising students during the exam.
Students enrolled in Michigan Virtual courses by a school will have their local mentor retrieve exam passwords through the secure Exam Passwords dashboard.
Instruction
- Review the Student’s Pacing Guide
After accessing the course, guardians should review the student’s pacing guide to identify scheduled dates for midterm and final exams.Summer 2025 and beyond: We’ve launched a brand-new, smarter Pacing Tool in Brightspace to help you stay on track with ease. Explore how it works in the Student Pacing Tool. Note: the current pacing guides linked from the SLP will be retired on 7/7/25 with the exclusion of Essentials courses, which should continue to use the SLP guides.
- Contact the Course Instructor
Guardians must contact the course instructor to request the necessary exam password(s). To assist the instructor in locating the correct information, guardians should mention that the student is classified as a homeschooled student within the Student Learning Portal (SLP).
