Identify Students Missing an Assigned Mentor

About

Assigning a local mentor is critical for a student’s success and is a requirement under the Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE) Pupil Accounting Manual. Affiliation users can locate students who do not have an assigned mentor through several methods within the Student Learning Portal (SLP).

Important: If a mentor is not assigned within 48 hours of enrollment, Michigan Virtual will automatically assign the enroller as the student’s mentor.

  1. Navigate to the MySLP tab.
  2. Locate the Count of Students W/O Mentors widget to view the number of students missing mentor assignments.
  3. Review the AFU – Students Missing Mentors widget to see a list of student names.
  4. Use the displayed information to associate students with mentors as needed.
  1. Tap the Reports tab in the top menu bar.
  2. Select Run Reports from the left-hand navigation.
  3. Choose AFU – Students Missing Mentors from the "Select a report" dropdown.
    Optional: To include Term and Section information, select "AFU – Students Missing Mentors with Enrollment Data" instead.
  4. Tap the Run Report button.

  5. Once the report appears press Export Results to Excel to download the information and/or press Print page to print the list.

  1. Tap the Students tab from the top menu bar.

  2. Select Basic Search from the left-hand navigation.

  3. In the search fields, find the Flag field and select "No Mentor" from the dropdown options.

  4. Tap the Get Data button to view the list of students missing mentor assignments.

  5. To export, tap Export Results to Excel to download the information and/or press Print page to print the list.

Associate a Mentor to Student(s)

Once the students missing mentor assignments have been identified, affiliation users should promptly associate each student with an appropriate mentor to ensure compliance and support student success.
